Welcome to Gangletown, where each week, you’ll receive original writing by David Kimple. If that is good for your vybe and you’d like access to everything gangletown has to offer, check out subscription options here.
She’s fun, she’s stun, and she’s turning ONE.
This week, Gangletown is celebrating its first birthday. For me, this is a big moment of success. At the onset of this adventure, my principal goal was to make it at least one whole year. I wanted to publish something every week and provide myself a reason to write when the world felt uncertain, and my creativity felt unfocused. And with today’s publication, that goal is reached.
In year one of Gangletown, there were:
89 Publications (90 if you count this one)
Approximately 140,00 words published
**According to Google, the average word count of a novel is between 80-100,000 words…I wrote a Gangle book! Fun!25,670 email opens
100% success in a creative exercise that was supported by some very badass people that I call Gangles
Some stand out pieces:
The very first publication: Welcome to Gangletown
The most read publication: Summing Up 2020
The most commented-on: I LOVE THAT
My favorite essay: Worst Audition of My LIFE
My favorite experiment: 'Sink, Florida, Sink' (The Novel) #1
For those who have joined the Gangletown community, please know that my body is absolutely exploding with gratitude. You probably knew that because it’s seeping from the crevices of my eye sockets, and it smells like the perfume of a thousand unicorns. You probably know this already because I am nothing if not embarrassingly earnest.
What were your standouts? Please leave them in the comments, or respond to this email!
What you can expect from Year TWO!
The good news is that I fuckin’ LOVE Gangletown, and I’m going to keep on moving and grooving and work to evolve this thing for the better.
To start, there will be a few changes to the regularity of publication. Moving forward, all publications will be released on Wednesdays, and the content will alternate between open-format (essays, poems, scripts, etc.) and Hump Day Motivations (thirst, culture, recommendations, and beyond). In addition, there will no longer be a “Favorite Things” edition, but I’ll regularly incorporate favs and recs into the Hump Day editions.
And, because we’re all friends here, I want you to know that my goal for year two of Gangletown is going to be a little different. I’ll be focusing on adding more subscribers and quality over quantity when it comes to the content I share. So! If you’re here and you love your weekly Gangles, please share the newsletter when it inspires you and/or gift a subscription to your favorite peeps.
