Welcome to the Hump Day Motivation (HDM), a bi-weekly edition of ‘Gangletown’ about thirst and culture to get us through those rough mid-week moments. The HDM is typically released every other Wednesday for full-access subscribers only, but if you know someone that might love it, you have my full blessing to forward it their way!
Fear Street: Part One - 1994
Netflix has released a horror trilogy called Fear Street, and last week we joined our friends Geoff, Andre, and David to watch part one. I really loved it! There is nothing like watching a slasher movie with friends; it really is an incomparable experience. It helps because the scaries are still scary, but they’re also so fun when one is with peeps. Plus, I am a ball of anxiety, so it’s nice to have people to whom I can say, “I’m so stressed ouutttttt.”
In addition to the comradery, Fear Street: Part One - 1994 was much more difficult to keep up with than I imagined it would be. The movie blends horror genres in a way that sort of breaks the rules, so keeping up with the story is harder. Is it a classic slasher film? Or a witch story? Or a zombie movie? Is it camp? Is it a period piece?
Yes. Colorful, energized, queer, and bloody. I can’t wait to watch Part Two, which I’m told is successfully more “traditional” its style, but I can’t really comment on that so far.
Anyone else on the Fear Street train?
Normani finally back with Wild Side
Normani has finally released her own new song, “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B. This is a musician that we’ve been waiting on for a damn minute because she hasn’t released a single since “Motivation” in 2019, and we still don’t have any news about an album…Now, I mean, come on now!
The good news is that Normani is working smart and slow. The video is decadent, with strong visuals, fashion, and dancing. Plus, the Cardi feature works like a charm (I’m definitely biased, and have a strong love for Cardi, despite her many notable cancellations). For me - for ME - the song itself doesn’t quite hit on the whole…in fairness, I’ve been on a definite alt/punk/rock narrative most of the time lately, so I’m not saying the song is bad, but it just doesn’t quite click for some reason.
But the video is certainly an achievement…because…oh my god, Normani is so hotttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt. If ever there was a Dzaddy for this week’s Hump Day, Normani is that Dzaddy. So I’m more than happy to award her DILFoftheWEEK.
So, where are we watching the next season of Survivor?
Alright, it’s no secret that Blaine and I have become addicted to Survivor. I’ve written about it in Gangletown approximately 4,013 times. And this shall be 4,014. Because Season 41’s start date has been announced as September 22nd, and I think we need to create a watch party situation. Maybe we can get a bar to air it for a group thing? Maybe it’s just at my apartment, and y’all can just come over or zoom in? So we have options, and we’re going to do something.
But here is the question of the day: Would you fuck Jeff Probst? Honest answers only; express yourself in the comments.
Who is Jeff Probst
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.
