I just saw the headline of a Medium article about a review of a new documentary that’s streaming and it really struck a chord…now I am questioning everything…
Okay, the irony of talking about this on my page is NOT lost on me. I totally get it and I’m actually feeling super conflicted about sharing this at all. But I feel I have a duty to do so — especially during these *trying times*.
Did you know that social media is controlling our lives?
You know me, I hardly ever use social media at all - except to keep in contact with my best friends, family, and a few hundred people from college, high school, and the restaurant I worked at in 2013. I only post like…once a day maybe? Sometimes more. But rarely! Apparently some people don’t have as much self-control as I do….Sad. But even though I am not really into social media that much, I am still susceptible to the evils out there also too as well. Such a rude awakening.
You guys, everything about these platforms is toxic like at The Ellen Show.
The big corporate companies that own them are WATCHING US and they are being very mean behind the scenes. The employees are listening to us and reading our texts. They can see what we look at and who we talk to. Just the other day, I commented on a post that Ashley shared from Sarah Jessica Parker’s shoe company, and now? I get ads for shoes all the time. Ummm, big brother much? So scary. And it is happening to you too.
They are stealing our information and using it against us somehow that matters in some way…idk how.
What’s crazier is that this isn’t new. They’ve been doing this to us from the beginning. We all think we are just enjoying a platform that connects us but it’s really only drawing us farther apart. This is NOT an exaggeration — they are trying to control how we think and divide us. I got a B- in math but I KNOW that isn’t good for peace on earth.
They are feeding us lies and trends.
I’m a big movie buff and it is exactly like what happens in that really old classic movie from the early 2000’s Josie and the Pussycats starring Rachel Leigh Cook and Tara Reid. One of my favs tbqh.
Anyway, I think it’s clear what we have to do. First, you should definitely read about the documentary. Maybe even watch the documentary itself? EEK. I don’t even know… It sounds so scary and I hate scary movies but I might make an exception on this one. Maybe I’ll snuggle up with a big blanket, a glass of wine, and watch it. Hello, spooky season! (DM me if you’re down to join — could be fun)
You guys, this is REALLY serious. I’m even doing a challenge to delete my social accounts from my phone to see if I can get away from *the cycle*. Time to unplug and refocus on the things that really matter. (But don’t worry. I’ll still check my messages on my desktop in the mornings, on lunch, and sometimes before bed. But if you really want to get a hold of me you should text, email, or even call. I swear I’ll try to pick up — lol.)
P.S. If anyone finds the article I saw, can you post it in the comments for others?

I’m not sure of the article you read, but Tristan Harris was on the Making Sense podcast with Sam Harris some months back. I highly recommend that. https://samharris.org/podcasts/218-welcome-cult-factory/
Also, I remember watching Josie and the Pussycats with you in 2005. I corroborate with your tbqh.
I gleefully left the FBs and the IGs. Twitter is my casual enemy, but I control the time and use it for my news. Jack is better at least than the Zucks.
